Construction is a business of EXPERIENCE as well as education. Regardless of where your path leads you in this industry, exposure to all aspects of the construction process are vital to your success.

Our goal for you as an entry level Project Engineer is to have you participate in all aspects of a project; from the early budgets, through "ground breaking" to project completion. Ideally, you will stay with the same project throughout. For the majority of the time, you will be located in the field. You will work closely with your Project Manager, Project Executive and Superintendent. We will assign you RESPONSIBILITIES as early as you are able, not just TASKS. We know your learning comes much quicker by DOING, not just WATCHING. You will quickly be estimating trades, negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers, expediting materials and coordinating trades in the field. You will have direct contact with Architects, Engineers, and Clients early on as well.

We believe the best way to build our company is to promote from within our own staff ranks.

Eventually, your interest will gravitate in one direction, either toward Project Management or On-site Supervision. As your interest becomes clear, we will begin to direct your assignments in the direction YOU choose. We believe it is in your best interest, as well as Power's, to put you in the role you enjoy the most.

As part of our commitment to grow staff from within, Project Engineers (like all of our staff) have numerous formal and informal training opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge. Typically, we provide approximately 75 different training opportunities to choose from in any given year... both hard skills (like Scheduling or MEP Coordination) and soft skills (such as Conflict Resolution or Time Management). Training scenarios range from formal classroom and workshop settings to informal technical briefings and site-based reviews. In fact, most staff meetings are geared around training and knowledge sharing, including the monthly PE Group Meetings and the Quarterly Operations Meetings. Bottom line, by self-selecting how much time you invest in training you directly impact how fast you learn and grow.

We also invest a great deal of time in mentoring. Each Project Manager and Superintendent is evaluated semi-annually on their efforts and success in mentoring our Project Engineers. Their bonus is determined, in part, on the strength of this effort.

We have seen significant progress from our entry level Project Engineers over the past few years with many promoted to Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Superintendents.

The future of Power depends on the strength of its people. Therefore, our investment in people will remain a top priority.
