The limestone-clad building is devoted to teaching and research in the biological sciences. Designed for research in molecular medicine, the laboratories are equipped with custom casework, epoxy resin tops, thirty fume hoods, ionized water, lab air, gas and vacuum services, and supported with adjoining tissue culture and x-omat rooms. Other support space and equipment include ten environmental cold rooms, four radioisotope hoods, nine autoclaves, two dark rooms, and many equipment storage spaces.

The other side of the building houses the learning center with teaching labs for gross anatomy and clinical pathology. Research greenhouses, lecture rooms and additional classrooms complete the space. Support areas in the lower level include an animal and cadaver holding unit. The Pritzker School of Medicine and the Office of Student Graduate Affairs are also located in this building.

Creative Scheduling and Budgeting Saves Millions
  • To meet the university’s budget without compromising function or aesthetics, our team led a value engineering effort resulting in fifty alternates worth about $4,000,000 in savings.
  • To meet the desired occupancy for fall classes, we aggressively scheduled, divided occupancy of the building, and issued the construction documents in multiple bid packages.
