The 195,400 sf Nursing, Forensic, and Chemistry Building brought a new major hub for health science and laboratory education to Loyola's Lakeshore Campus, featuring heavy laboratory spaces, classrooms, offices, and a nursing simulation suite designed for hands-on experimental learning. The facility features a mix of brick, limestone, and curtain wall façades, with interior finishes of wood paneling, limestone, and Loyola red accents.
In-house Quality and VDC
Our in-house Quality and VDC teams were engaged from the beginning, coordinating complex systems and ensuring precision in masonry, waterproofing, and lab mechanical details.
Sustainability
A unique component of this LEED Gold building was the sophisticated mechanical design which incorporates exhaust air handling units, specialty coils, and energy-recovery components that capture and reuse heat from the building’s extensive lab exhaust streams.
Safety and Logistics Planning
Located in the heart of LUC's compact urban Lakeshore Campus, the project required site safety and logistics planning to maintain pedestrian and transit access during construction. A pedestrian canopy was installed once the structure rose, and a tower crane positioned within the building footprint maximized limited site space. Additionally, early installation of a new storm line and other utilities helped streamline site circulation and maintain schedule momentum.
