Size
402,000 sf
This 402,000 sf ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken processing facility is located adjacent to Koch Foods’ existing RTE plant, allowing management to oversee both operations from a centralized hub. To prepare the site, the team cut 20 feet through predominantly rock to match the existing grade and rerouted an active creek to accommodate the new footprint.
Design & Construction
-
Building enclosure uses tilt-up concrete panels and insulated metal panels (IMP) for durability, thermal performance, and speed.
-
The team self-performed IMP walls, ceilings, ductwork, and doors for tighter quality and coordination.
-
Mechanical systems were designed concurrently with steel erection to meet an aggressive schedule.
-
Work on a tight, shared site required careful planning to use the neighboring facility’s entrances and parking without disrupting daily operations.
Unique Features & VDC
-
Master-planned for future expansion to reduce rework as capacity increases.
-
A virtual twin of production and office spaces allowed early clash detection among structure, MEP, refrigeration, and process piping.
-
Prefabrication of major refrigeration and process piping elements improved quality, safety, and schedule reliability.
