Panduit’s five-story office building and a two-story employee services facility were built on a 50-acre greenfield site located along I-80. The employee services building includes a cafeteria, fitness center, central plant, and conference facilities featuring the latest telepresence technology. The firm initially relocated 500 employees, but the campus can accommodate up to 1,200 with the construction of the second office tower.
The new facility showcases their UPI-based Connected Building solution, integrating the core facility, security and communications systems on a single network for construction and management. The system also maximizes efficiencies and reduces energy consumption. This facility serves as a demonstration for clients and visitors.
Cost-Saving Project Logistics
To keep costs down and hit the schedule, our team got creative with on-site solutions. We brought in a second crane for steel erection to speed things up without breaking the bank, and built a temporary Bailey bridge that gave us a direct path for soil movement—cutting trucking expenses significantly. Instead of hauling off unsuitable soils, we dug borrow pits right on-site for relocation. For dust control, we tapped water from the newly excavated ponds, skipping city water altogether. Existing site paving became parking for contractors and trailers, while smaller temp heaters replaced larger ones to avoid operator fees. We also fast-tracked electric and natural gas utilities, flipping to permanent systems sooner for better efficiency.
