This 7-story boutique hotel features 159 guestrooms, event space, and restaurants. Once home to an Italian-American cheesemaking company, the building's façade was retained and is highlighted by the steel and glass exterior.
Creative Thinking Preserves the Historic Façade
The team knew we needed to preserve the building's masonry façade, a nod to the industrial feel of the area. But traditional bracing would have impacted the fast-track construction schedule as teams would have to work around the supports. Working with the project engineers, we stabilized the historic façade by stacking shipping containers along the sidewalk outside the new building footprint.This stabilized the façade without impacting the construction of the building behind it.
