Located in the lobby of Northwestern University’s Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center, these two restaurants bring fresh dining options to the Northwestern Medicine downtown Chicago campus.
beefsteak - a José Andrés Concept
Created by acclaimed chef and Nobel Peace Prize nominee José Andrés, Beefsteak celebrates healthy, vegetable‑forward cuisine with quick, grab‑and‑go convenience. The sleek, freestanding kiosk sits prominently in front of the research center’s floor‑to‑ceiling windows, serving faculty, staff, and visitors seeking nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day.
complex installation in an active lobby
Installing a full restaurant within the center of an existing building lobby required precise coordination and technical expertise. Our team collaborated with designers and MEP subcontractors to route all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems beneath the finished floor, emerging exactly where needed to serve equipment within the kiosk. This approach preserved the architectural integrity of the space while delivering seamless functionality.
slice pizzeria and smart market
Also located in the Simpson Querrey lobby, Slice Pizzeria serves individual slices and beverages to hospital staff, patients, and students, while the adjacent Smart Market provides 24/7 self‑checkout access to meals, snacks, and drinks.
Both fast‑casual dining projects were completed within a three‑month schedule, demonstrating efficient delivery within a high‑traffic, operational campus environment.
