Hyatt Regency O’Hare completed its first major hotel renovation since opening in 1971, transforming guest rooms, public spaces, and key amenities to deliver a modern, elevated experience for travelers and event guests.

Common Area Upgrades

The project introduced a brand-new conference center, redesigned porte cochere and main entrance, a contemporary restaurant and bar, an upgraded Regency Club, and refreshed public spaces throughout. A newly enclosed skywalk now connects the hotel directly to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, enhancing accessibility and event convenience. These updates create a warm, functional, and seamless arrival and event experience for guests.

Construction Approach and Schedule

To meet an aggressive timeline, the hotel fully closed from December 9 through mid‑January. The team developed a detailed schedule and intensive staffing plan, working 24/7 during the initial weeks followed by two daily shifts totaling 17 hours. This strategic approach enabled extensive interior and systems work to be completed on time despite holiday and winter season challenges, minimizing disruption to post‑construction hotel operations.

Guestroom Renovations and Preconstruction

Renovations encompassed all 1,100 guestrooms, completed in 19 carefully sequenced phases to reduce impact on occupancy and revenue. During a nine‑month preconstruction phase, the contractor, owner, and architect collaborated through 10 rounds of estimating to align scope, cost, and schedule—ensuring a smooth, coordinated build‑out once construction began.

Operations During Construction

Dedicated construction elevators and temporary barriers maintained full separation between active work areas and guest zones. This approach preserved a clean, quiet, and comfortable environment for guests while ensuring safety and operational continuity throughout the renovation.

The result is a revitalized Hyatt Regency O’Hare—reaffirming its status as one of Chicago’s premier hospitality and events destinations.
