The New City mixed-use development, located on an 8.2-acre site in Lincoln Park, features a 19-story residential tower, two retail/entertainment buildings and a seven-story precast parking garage. The 500,000 sf retail space is split between two-story buildings constructed along Halsted Street and Clybourn Avenue. Lead retail tenants include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Arclight Cinemas, and the largest Mariano’s Fresh Market built in Chicago. Our team worked with Mariano's staff to construct a freight elevator capable of conveying up to 14,000 pounds.

Preconstruction Services Influence Key Project Decisions

The Power team provided extensive preconstruction services that influenced key design and schedule decisions, including:

  • Multiple design charrettes
  • Value engineering sessions
  • Milestone estimating and cost tracking
  • Enclosure systems evaluations
  • Peer design and constructability reviews

Through these efforts, the team supplied timely, data‑driven insight as the design evolved—identifying savings opportunities and optimizing constructability. Early procurement of key substructure trades further accelerated the start of construction, helping deliver this complex project efficiently and successfully.
