Tier II Suburban Chicago Data Center and Central Plant Expansion
As part of a confidential suburban Chicago technology campus expansion, our team delivered a new 130,000 sf Tier II data center and central plant purpose-built for 24/7 mission-critical operation. The facility expands the client’s computing capacity while ensuring energy efficiency, reliability, and room for future growth.
Design and Construction Details
The two-story data center facility features a lower level housing major electrical distribution equipment for medium-voltage service and multiple chiller units. The main level provides approximately 22,000 square feet of white space for server environments, network hubs, and essential support functions such as staging, hardware preparation, and infrastructure storage.
Built on a 30-inch industrial raised access floor, the structure integrates a multi-tier cable tray system and underfloor power and cooling network to support high-density data deployments. The building’s robust structural design meets strict seismic and high-wind performance standards, with mission-critical systems safeguarded by a hardened foundation, impact-resistant exterior envelope, and enhanced roof assembly.
Mechanical and Electrical Resilience
Mechanical and electrical systems are engineered with redundant power feeds, centralized UPS-backed emergency lighting, and dual-valve chilled water systems that enable maintenance or expansion without downtime. These design features support continuous operation for Tier II mission-critical environments.
Campus Expansion
The project also included a new 900-stall, three-level parking structure to serve the growing technology campus. Thoughtfully planned within the suburban context, the structure supports long-term campus expansion while maintaining architectural harmony with surrounding developments.
