A first for both organizations, The Club MDW was Power’s inaugural project at Midway International Airport and the airport’s first dedicated lounge for travelers. Located in the Central Market at the intersection of Concourses A and B, the 3,400 sf lounge includes a concierge area, bar, servery, beverage station, productivity zones, restrooms, and multiple seating areas to support work and relaxation.
The design draws from Chicago’s architectural heritage, using high‑contrast, monochromatic tones and clean, minimal geometry as an elegant backdrop. Layered metallic accents, plush upholstery, and warm materials create a comfortable, hospitality‑driven guest experience that feels elevated yet approachable.
Minimizing disruptions
During construction, the team discovered that the lounge bar was located directly above an active tug lane, introducing unexpected complexity for plumbing rough‑ins. To avoid delays and minimize disruption to airfield operations, we designed and built a temporary working platform (“dance floor”) off the side of the building, allowing crews to complete the underground work safely and efficiently. What started as a straightforward white‑box build‑out became a more intricate project that highlighted our team’s ability to adapt quickly in an active airport environment.
Impressed by this problem‑solving approach, Airport Dimensions engaged our aviation team for a second lounge project in Grand Rapids and now relies on us as a trusted advisor to help refine their design and planning processes for future airport lounge developments.
