Devoted to enriching the lives of older adults, The Mather Life Plan Community offers a continuum of care in an elegant, resort-style environment designed to inspire residents to live well at every stage of life. Spanning 603,000 sf, the community features two striking 11-story towers that together encompass 422 residences, including independent living, assisted living, memory support, and long-term care suites.

Project Scope

Developed in partnership with Mather LifeWays and designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB), the project integrates a full range of wellness and lifestyle amenities, including:

  • Three dining venues and a full-service commercial kitchen

  • Two acres of landscaped gardens with multiple outdoor terraces

  • Resident lounge, parlor, great room, theater, and library spaces designed for engagement and connection

  • A state-of-the-art fitness center with a 20-meter saline pool, warm-water therapy pool, sauna, and steam showers

  • Full-service day spa offering restorative treatments

  • Underground parking garage for resident convenience

Complex Excavation: Minimizing Risk with Precision

To provide safe and efficient passage between the north and south towers, our team constructed a 20-foot-deep underground tunnel beneath a main Evanston thoroughfare. We collaborated closely with the City of Evanston to develop a detailed logistics plan that minimized street closures and ensured the highest safety standards during construction. The result is a seamless, below-grade connection that enhances accessibility while maintaining the surrounding neighborhood’s flow and safety.
